Our values.

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Christ & Neighbor based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

God
We believe that there is only one living and true God who is infinite, eternal, and unchangeable. We also believe that God is one person; while existing in three distinct persons we call the Trinity. The Trinity is made up of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity has the same nature and attributes, but each functions differently in relation to God's purposes and how God functions in the lives of people.
Trinity - God the Father
We believe that God the Father is in charge of everything and directs all things according to His own purpose, pleasure, and grace. The Father is in control of creation, He is in control of what happens, and He is in control of redeeming people for eternity to Himself. He has planned everything that happens for His own glory. He graciously and compassionately involves Himself in the affairs of humanity, hears and answers prayer, and saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Trinity - God the Son
Jesus, the second person of the Trinity, was born of a virgin, is fully God and fully man. He surrendered nothing of His deity during His earthly life. His example of having led a perfect sinless life, satisfied the Father’s justice concerning sin. He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His physical ascension, and His visible return to earth to establish His earthly kingdom.
Trinity - God the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, carries out the will of God in humanity. Holy Spirit guides our spiritual journey. Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Holy Spirit empowers believers with special gifts, equipping them to accomplish distinct ministries.
Humanity
We see the human person as made in the image of God whether male or female. Each person is created to possess a unique capacity to have a relationship with God and others. As image bearers of God, each one of us is granted special status and inherited dignity. We are created to reflect God’s character and care for his creation. Humans are created for community and have a responsibility to care for one another, particularly the poor and vulnerable.
Sin
Humanity disobeyed the will of God. This ‘sin’ causes spiritual death, decay and brokenness that leads to physical death. Everyone is born with a ‘sinful nature’, but also continues to sin in thoughts, words and actions. Our willful disobedience puts humanity in need of a Savior.
Scripture
We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God. It is perfect and mistake-free in the way it was written originally. We believe there is only one true way to understand the Bible, found by carefully looking at the words, grammar, and history of its writing.
Salvation
We believe that Jesus' death on the cross was the only way to pay for our sins. Anyone who believes in this truth is forgiven and declared right with God because of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. When we by faith accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God through His forgiveness and grace sends His Holy Spirit to live and abide in us. We become children of God forever and are members of God’s Church of believers. This salvation will result in living and loving like Jesus did. Our new relationship with God will lead to good works as the believer submits their life to the control of Holy Spirit.
The Church
We believe once you have put your faith in Jesus you are part of the Global Church. Believers are directed by the Scriptures to join local visible churches. These local churches are where Christians worship, learn, and serve together. Churches are led by godly leaders, called elders and deacons, and practice two ceremonies: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. The purpose of the church is to prepare one another to serve God, care for others, help them grow in their faith, and share the Gospel.
Marriage
We believe in the historically Christian view of marriage and sexual expression; namely, that marriage is a lifelong one-flesh covenant union between two sexually different persons (male and female) from different families, and that all sexual practice outside of marriage is sin. A problem that arises in our culture today is how alienating this can be--and this is precisely what Christ and Neighbor is against. At Christ and Neighbor we want to promote Jesus and his Kingdom, how he loved ALL of us…we are all sinners in need of a savior. Sexuality is one area of life. Even within the context of heterosexual Christian marriage there is much sin. At our church all are welcome to worship here, to seek Jesus. We believe He is the one who changes lives, not us. The doors of our church are open to anyone regardless of belief. When a couple requests to be married in our church, it will be in the form of a traditional view of marriage as stated in our beliefs.
Jesus' Return
We believe that the scriptures teach us that Jesus will return as he promised. In this return He will be visible, in person, and all will see his glory.
